Erdoğan: Iran conflict’s tech disruption threatens global economic stability

by admin477351

In a recent address following a Cabinet meeting in Ankara, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasized how deeply interconnected the world has become, asserting that no nation can escape the ripple effects of crises occurring elsewhere. He highlighted the global economic and political repercussions of the Iran conflict, noting how inflation, supply chain issues, and energy market instability are manifesting across continents.

Erdoğan illustrated the profound impact of globalization and economic interdependence, stating, “When a country in the Middle East sneezes today, a country in Latin America or Asia can easily catch a cold.” He described the situation stemming from the attacks on Iran as a multilayered crisis undermining worldwide stability, pointing to fluctuating fuel prices, rising inflation, and ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz as evidence of increasing global fragility.

The Turkish leader voiced concerns over the unpredictable nature of the economic fallout, criticizing what he sees as a speculative market environment benefiting a few at the expense of many. He argued that a small group of capitalists is exploiting the situation, leading to wealth accumulation for a few while billions face diminished living standards. “Every war creates its own economy. Every war has its winners and losers,” Erdoğan remarked, adding that the Iran conflict has reached a destructive level for global economic well-being.

On the domestic front, Erdoğan addressed the issue of excessive price hikes in Türkiye, arguing that these cannot be justified solely by production or transportation costs, especially given the country’s comparatively low energy input costs. He assured that authorities would continue to monitor and counter exploitative pricing practices, urging businesses to contribute to maintaining market stability and safeguarding consumers.

In addition to economic concerns, Erdoğan condemned Israel’s actions against the Global Sumud Flotilla, labeling them as “piracy” and “banditry.” He asserted that such attacks would not hinder international efforts to pursue justice and show solidarity with the Palestinian people, underscoring the presence of citizens from 40 different countries on the aid flotilla, which he referred to as “voyagers of hope.”
